Impact of Channel Fading on the Performance of AODV in Mobile Ad hoc Networks
Abstract
The Mobile Ad hoc network faces the fundamental limitations on its performance due to
mobile radio channels. Since, these networks does not trust on any infrastructure to
work, not any centralized control on its operation, rather the node itself coordinates and
controls the network in cooperation of other devices. The promptness of signal impacts
how swiftly the signal level fades as a node moves in space. The objective of this
research is to study the performance of Ad hoc On- Demand distance vector Routing
(AODV) protocol for mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs) with channel fading. Various
experiments have been performed with different variables in different scenarios under
free space, two-ray ground and shadowing propagation models. Here the result of the
study indicates discrete results of performance of the network. It shows that the AODV
protocol has maintaining the routes laboriously in the given environments with severe
fading. Additionally, management of radio power so that the packet transmissions are
tailored to reach only the desired nodes seems to be a good compromise between
interference and coverage.
