Pharmacological Potential of Medicinal Herbs for the Management of Cardiovascular Disorders
Abstract
Even though they continue to be the leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is a serious public health problem. The use of medicinal plants as a form of alternative medicine is widespread and is used to treat a range of illnesses, including heart issues. Natural remedies are currently gaining popularity in conventional healthcare due to the notion that they are safe and may provide therapeutic advantages at a lesser cost than traditional modern pharmaceuticals. The safety of herbal remedies is not, however, sufficiently supported by the available research. The importance of educating the awareness of the dangers, advantages, and drug-herb interactions related to therapeutic herbs cannot be overstated. Our investigation and discussion of the use of various herbs in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders, including myocardial infarction, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and epidemics, are the main focuses of this work. With the benefit of recently released in vitro and in vivo investigations, we review the most recent findings on the cellular and molecular cardio protective mechanisms of these plant species. Additionally, we offer the findings of a review on ongoing clinical trials concentrating on the effectiveness, safety, or toxicity of these herbs.
